Uttarakhand : Atleast 3 Killed, Over 100 Injured In Haldwani Madrassa Demolition Violence

On Thursday, after a madrasa that local authorities believed to have been built illegally was demolished, fighting broke out in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. A curfew was put in place after criminals set fire to cars, including a police car, and threw stones at police officers.

Following the demolition of an illegal mosque, riots broke out in Haldwani's Banbhulpura. As a result, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued shoot-at-sight orders, India Today reported on Thursday. On Friday, the Chief Minister declared that all Haldwani schools would stay closed.

An illegal madrasa was destroyed earlier today in Haldwani, close to the Banbhulpura police station, by the local civic body. Conflicts ensued after that, with protesters hurling stones at police officers and setting cars on fire, one of which was a police car. They burned down a transformer and damaged multiple cars.
