10th Prime Minister Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao was awarded the Bharat Ratna award on Friday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in honour of "his contributions to India's foreign policy, language, and education sectors."


"Narasimha Rao Garu served India extensively in various capacities as a distinguished scholar and statesman," Prime Minister Modi stated. His work as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, a Union Minister, and a long-serving member of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament will also be remembered. His astute leadership played a pivotal role in propelling India's economy forward, establishing a strong basis for its affluence and expansion."


In 1991, the nation faced up to with a number of difficulties, the most pressing of which was the economic crisis. Narasimha Rao assumed control of the Prime Minister's office. Being credited as the "Father of Indian Economic Reforms," he brought India into the modern era of economic reforms, including globalisation, liberalisation, and privatisation, which set the way for the country's future development.

From June 21, 1991, to May 16, 1996, or 1,791 days, Roa was India's prime minister.
